Video: Watch A Twin Turbo, 427ci Windsor Ford Engine Crank Out 1600hp On An Aussie Dyno!

This awesome blue oval mill had us yelling, “LS What?!” after we saw video of it wrenching out 1600hp on an Australian dyno. With CHI heads, Precision turbos, and 20lbs of boost heading into it, the motor is certainly strong and most likely headed for a full tilt drag car, but who knows. It could be heading for an Aussie burnout car to impress the countrymen at events like the PowerCruise and others.

Someone with more experience running dynos can probably fill us in on why the engine seems to be flat spotted and surging a little at the top of the RPM range during the pulls. It doesn’t have that linear acceleration curve that lots of engines we hear run on the dyno have. Instead when it seems like the thing wants more RPM, something is holding on to it. The dyno perhaps? We’re really not sure.

With 427ci of displacement and an output of 1600hp, this thing is making well over 3hp per cubic inch. That’s an amazing number and its very cool that a Ford mill is the one doing it. Hey, we love them all around here but it is always good to see a truly muscular piece that is not an LS engine! The blue oval boys won’t need any male enhancement pills for a week after seeing this!

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

This is an amazing achievement, especially as Windsor cylinder heads aren’t as free-flowing as their Cleveland brothers. This might explain the flat spots and surging – they may have used the Windsor as a base on economic grounds as Clevelands are probably really expensive down under.

But persistence will pay off and I’d love to see the car they put this beauty in embarrass a Chevy at the drags – LS what? indeed!

Dude, not cause clevo’s are dear down here-we had them in production vehicle til 1984, so there’s no shortage of them……probably an aftermarket block anyway…..

The CHI head on this engine is a cleveland style head. Look at the exhaust ports. The CHI cleveland head is one of the most potent packages available for the SBF.
