Watch a Toyota Supra Explode and Turn the Strip at E-Town into a Hibachi Grill

Watch a Toyota Supra Explode and Turn the Strip at E-Town into a Hibachi Grill

While all the strips in the greater LA area may be shut down, the drag plants in New Jersey are awakening from their winter dormancy to the delight of drag racers from all over the New England and New York region. Well, almost all the drag racers. The owner of this hopped up Supra featured in the video below is not so excited as he lit his car up like a high speed roman candle at Englishtown last weekend.

We’re not sure if this is a fuel fed fire or perhaps one fed by transmission fluid, which really likes to ignite when pressurized lines explode at high speed and spray fluid on the hot exhaust. Either way, this is a scary looking fire, especially because it lights off on the top end of the track when the car is hauling the mail at a pretty good clip.

Judging by some of the comments under the video, mentioning a two plus hour cleanup time, it must have been a transmission line failure. The car probably laid down an even coat of the slippery goo from wall to wall. We’re sure the track crew was super excited about that.

Press play below to see the hottest Supra you’ve ever laid eyes on. (see what we did there….hottest….fire…get it?)

The worst dragstrip cleanup I ever saw was when a pickup launched, and the seat hit the back window and it broke. The 11 billion pieces of glass went all over the starting line and down the track, they guy kept his foot in it. The glass could not be swept up from the sticky racing surface, even with the rotary broom on the tractor. Had to be picked up by hand.
