Watch a Turbocharged X275 Drag Car Make and Eighth Mile Pass With More Time on Two Wheels Than Four

Watch a Turbocharged X275 Drag Car Make and Eighth Mile Pass With More Time on Two Wheels Than Four

It is Monday, so the killer racing videos from last weekend are flowing in. This one comes from my home track of New England Dragway in Epping, NH. The video was shot on Saturday at an event that featured the local X275 drag radial class. These cars are pretty amazing performers that run insanely quick in very small tires. My buddies Travis and Ben run this class and have pulled sixty foot times in the sub 1.20 second zone! Turbocharged engines rule for the most part and it is exciting stuff to watch.

Weight balance is critical and the guys I know with these cars have all told me that 10-15lbs can make a car go from a decent hooking machine, to a dead hooking, wheelie monster. In this run, Tim Meagher launches his Mustang and the front end wants to part of terra firma. It carries the wheels pretty high, he pedals, and then the car decides it is really interested in a wheelstand. Tim manages to land it cleanly at speed and motor down to a run that was not what he wanted but prime for the highlight reel.

On a perfect pass for these X275 cars, the front wheels are literally tickling the pavement for the entire eighth-mile. This one went from tickling to Tickle Me Elmo super quick! Good driving by Tim to salvage something of a run and really wow the crowd!

Press play and hold on!

  1. crazy canuck

thats why everybody loves these cars, apparently that little white pinto on drag week was adjusting his launch ballast by sliding the passenger seat back and forth, and I thought 275s would be too small for my car.
