Watch The Poteet And Main Speed Demon Crash Anew – Rear Mounted Camera Illustrates Violence Of Wreck Better Than Front

A wise announcer once told me that one of the most dreaded phrases a racer can hear is, “Let’s see that from another angle” because it means that stuff is crashed up, burned up, blown up, or otherwise infirmed. In this case we’re talking about the Poteet and Main Speed Demon wreck that took place on the salt a week or so ago. We showed you the video from the cockpit mounted camera last week and today we’re back with the video from a rearward facing camera on the back of the car. Here’s the crazy thing…the rearward video is more illustrative as to the violence of the crash than the front one was. Why? Mainly because you are distracted by nothing and without all the flying debris and stuff you get a clear picture of where the Earth and the sky are and how many times they swap locations.

Remember, Poteet was moving, awake, and able to get out under his own power. He was transferred to Salt Lake City for observation but the only reportable injuries were a couple of compressed vertebrae. We have heard far too many people call George Poteet “lucky” over the last week. He was prepared and sitting in one of the most well built cars to ever thunder the salt. Lucky would have been surviving after the car flew apart and he landed in a puddle on the sand. This is no luck. This is one of the great land speed operations ever and a testament to their standards and expectations in the car that they used to compete. It saved George’s life.

Here’s the rear mount camera footage from the land speed wreck heard around the world. When the wreck begins, it looks like footage taken from a crashing spacecraft.

More often than not there is no PLAY button to push to view videos that you post. Once in a while there is a site address so you can cut and paste to open one, but not always. It’s frustrating when the videos can’t be opened.
