We’ve seen guys blow cars up, get into fist fights, crash into barriers, and other stuff at Aussie burnout contests before but we’ve never seen a truck launch its bed off and nearly roll during one! This Toyota Hilux is equipped with the standard issue blown V8 that every Australian man seems to be granted on his 18th birthday and the pickup bed was replaced by a custom flatbed setup. The dude driving the truck has some serious chops as he is sliding and skidding his way into the hearts and minds of the fans and then it gets crazy. During a high speed slide the driveshaft fails and the sudden lack of spinning tires and addition of grip puts the truck way up on two wheels for a second before crashing back down onto all four, but more impressively, that flatbed we just talked about gets launched off the frame like God reached down with a pancake flipper and hits it himself!

The one thing we’re stumped about is in regard to what was holding the bed to the frame. Did the flailing driveshaft knock it loose and the violent stop of the skid and the bed’s own inertia carry it off? This one if good for a chuckle, but if the bed was that poorly mounted and he side swiped a barrier, sending it into the crowd, it would make for some tragic headlines. Can any armchair engineer determine what the bed was mounted with, you know, other than its own weight? This baby comes DAMN close to going turtle!
