Winter Wonderland: A Compilation Of Snow And Ice Fails

Winter Wonderland: A Compilation Of Snow And Ice Fails

Technically, it’s just about a month away, but winter weather has already slammed the continental United States, and with it comes the delicate act of driving in the snow. While we’d all like to think that we could handle the slick stuff as if you were an ice racer from Sweden, but the truth is that most of what we drive around here is barely prepared to handle the seriously slick stuff, and even if you are used to making 4,000lbs of vehicle dance around on ice like a graceful ballerina, chances are good that the dork in the Durango two cars ahead of you isn’t, and you still stand a very good chance of ending up on the phone with your insurance company.

There’s plenty of information on how to drive when Mother Nature goes cold, and there’s plenty of footage of what happens when things go bad on black ice. This particular footage was captured by storm chaser Dan Robinson, and it shows point-blank, in it’s full glory, just how quickly things can go from good to bad. He does say that nobody was hurt in any of these crashes, and that’s a good thing. He doesn’t say, however, if the owner of the Chevy Aveo that came very close to getting taken out by a semi-truck hauling a dump-truck bed filled his shorts or not.

This is my life for 6 months of the year. Nothing quite so awful as sliding on a hill, moving the speed that you would walk, and you can’t stop the car. Best thing to do is let off the brake and steer for something soft.
