Work For That Money: Chasing Five Grand Up A Muddy Bounty Hill In Kentucky!

Normally, when we check in on the rock bouncer types, they are trying to fling themselves up a hill that looks to have been crafted by the Devil himself. There’s airborne rigs, there’s carnage a-plenty, a rollover or two back down the hill, and so on. It’s why we like these guys…the rigs may have cost a pretty penny to build up, but the beating they take makes what rental cars go through look like driver’s training compared. But the muddy uphill ditch that was a $5,000 bounty hill at Pumpjack Off-Road Park in Columbia, Kentucky looks…well, it looks pretty damn tame by comparison, doesn’t it? We wouldn’t be driving a brand new truck up it, no, but surely one of these psychotic little tube-frame freaks could scramble the hill? Maybe, maybe not, if the slicker-than-gease mud has any control over what will happen. Busted Knuckle Video caught all of the action and the high-revving, mud-flinging glory of it all…click play below to enjoy the sights and sounds!

It seems the only cars that make it up the hill are powered by weedy little 4 cylinder motors and weigh half as much as the V8 monsters. This is a worrying trend as it will could spell the end of those ear splitting and exciting blind charges where a quick reverse journey back down the hill upside down is often the end result.

However British trials such as the Lands End trail see only slightly less steep hills negotiated by all sorts of weird cars from barely modified stock sedans to home built “specials” and even strange Reliant-based 3 wheelers. Off road treaded tyres are not allowed, only standard road tyres that are deflated to around 8psi to give a flatter footprint. While they might not sound as good as rock racers or offer the spectacle of multiple somersaults, these trials are as entertaining in their own right and are well worth a watch. After all the basic principle is the same – man versus hill and these cars manage to climb these hills with as little as 50 horsepower in some cases.

Check out the videos on YouTube and share them with my fellow BangShifters – and keep an eye out for that weird and wonderful 3 wheeler!
