In racing, no driver ever wants to come up short. This is especially true in Swedish Formula Off Road competition and these two videos below explain why. See, if you come up short in Formula Off Road like these guys, you end up flipping end over end (one truck does it stylishly backwards while the other uses the more traditional and Olympic accepted forward flips) down what amounts to a cliff. The crappy thing is for these drivers is that they were each just inches from claiming success in scaling the hill! One guy just misses planting the back wheels and powering over the top and the other leaps so high that his truck lands face first and falls the wrong way, sending him on a fun house style ride to the bottom. Interestingly, neither of the trucks experiences too much structural damage because they are well built and because they are wrecking on a fairly soft and granular surface. Yes, they both needed new steering components but something tells us that their trailers are stocked with tie rods and the like! The in-car footage of the guys tumbling is pretty dramatic and cool!
We’re not sure if this is the beginning or end of the Formula Off Road series in Sweden, but we do know that attending one of these deals is totally on our bucket list. If we could con a ride in the passenger seat of a truck like this we’d do it in a New York minute. Just the feeling of climbing so steeply would be one to have planted in you memory bank for all time!
So there are two videos below. Watch ’em both because they are great and because you see two guys experiencing the same problem in two totally different ways. Remember, when scaling near sheer cliffs with your trucks, always wear a helmet…and take off your straight jacket first. These guys are NUTS!
