Chevy, GMC, and Cadillac, At The 2014 Detroit Auto Show – A Photo Collection

Chevy, GMC, and Cadillac, At The 2014 Detroit Auto Show – A Photo Collection

While the Corvette and F-150 were grabbing all of the Monday headlines at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, there are other interesting bits of news as well. The 2015 GMC Canyon is one of them and we have photos of the all new (or at least new to the USA) truck at the show. What’s cool about it? Firstly, there will be a six speed manual transmission option which will make it the only truck other than a Cummins powered Ram to have a man pedal available. Additionally, there will be a turbo diesel option (2.8L I4) which, coupled with the six speed box should make this truck a beast on the mileage front. Size-wise is sure looks bigger than the last generation of Canyon trucks that went out of production a couple years back. We’re wondering when Ford will be back with a Ranger as they sell a good small truck all over the world but not here in the USA. This may force their hand.

On the Cadillac front, the ELR which is a premium hybrid was on display. Those cars just started shipping to dealers in December, so you probably have not seen one on the road yet. They’re a nice looking car and basically take the Volt and class it up into a luxury car. GM sees the need to have a luxury hybrid as the likes of Lexus, Infinity, etc are rolling them out. This is their answer. The stunning El Miraj concept car was on display with its long nose, stretched wheelbase, and “wheels at the corners” look. It is a looker for sure.

There’s Camaro photos in here, non Z06 Corvette photos, more trucks, and other coolness. Hit the link below to see all the shiny GM stuff on the floor of Cobo Hall. It still has that new gallery smell!

Chevy GM & Cadillac … in other words .. ” Much Ado About Nothing ” Row upon row of GM’s rehashed failures of the past with new bodies stuffed on top … not to mention all their Korean built Chevy’s and Buicks ( and now Cadillac as well …. the ELR = DaeWoo Lasceti to Chevy Cruze to Chevy VOLT to now the ELR ) and a ton of Hype & Hyperbole to go with them in the vain attempt to pass off their ‘ new ‘ old junk as something desirable .

So nice to see our Tax Dollars hard at work . Even nicer when considering that $10 billion dollar hit to the wallet we took because of GM’s ongoing ineptitude .

+ 1 on the Corvair van comment thought from Mr Cooper . The only thing in GM’s corner worth looking at 😉

I’m interested as Brian is in the diesel man pedal version of the new canyon, however, why is it that GM still feels the need to put a round peg in a square hole?
Do they really feel those cavernous square wheel wells are attractive?
Is it some “heritage” throw back to the side saddle exploding fuel tank trunks?

    I don’t get it.

Do pickup truck buyers really like the semi sized grilles on pickups these days? First, it was on the super duties, now on everything.

I have to say that I am interested to see what kind of hp and torque numbers GM will get out of the new little diesel four banger. With a turbo and direct injection, it should be a little mule. That’s what they should call it, Pepi the little mule.

I have to say my favorite was the 2015 Greenbriar van. Simple styling, air cooled rear mounted engine……………..oh wait.
