(Words and Photos by Joe Grippo) Long live the giant car show! When Goodguys said they were coming back to my area in Pennsylvania, we blocked the date on the calendar. The chosen venue for the Great American Nationals was the old school grounds of the York Fairgrounds, in York, Pa. Lots of space, lots of roads for cruising, and very cool old brick structures made for a perfect spot for this Goodguys gathering. It was a hot and humid weekend but that didn’t deter the muscle car and hot rodding folks from coming out to hang.

The variety of rides at a Goodguys show is nothing short of amazing. Volkswagens, trucks, vans, customs, muscle cars, hot rods, and everything in between and in all manner of modification. High-zoot, pro-built stuff to fresh barn finds it was all there. The Autocross was going full-tilt all weekend plus a mini swap meet, a bunch of vendors, and a model car contest filled in the gaps.

A few observations:
The big diameter wheel thing is still going strong. But I’ll always like sidewalls.
C\10 style GM trucks continue to explode, with some killer examples all over the place.
Rats Rods were sparse, thankfully.
Tri-5 Chevys and Corvettes are still extremely popular platforms for enthusiasts from Pro Street to Pro Touring to Street Freaks.
Station Wagons are still killer, and I want one…bad.
Fat Fendered and early Fords are still the ultimate hot rod.
Everything is better lowered.
Everything looks better with big tires.

We had a total blast. See it all for yourself in the galleries.
Get yourselves to a Goodguys Show, you won’t regret it.
