We’ve seen some badass Subarus over the years, but the dragstrip isn’t the normal haunting grounds of the all-wheel-drive rocket. Generally, Subarus are normally found at autocrosses, rallycrosses, and prowling the streets looking to try and surprise the overconfident opponent off of the line. It’s that last point that makes the dragstrip look more and more inviting, where a good launch in bracket-racing can be the key to victory. But the launch is only one part of a drag run…what about making good use of the flat-four and it’s turbocharger? Meet “V8 Bait”, a 1,000 horse Subaru STI “hawk eye” that has had an interesting gestation. 1320Video compiled some older footage of the car, from it’s days as a violent, bouncing beast that seemed less like an automobile and more like a pissed-off bull, to where it is now: a snotty all-tire-fire creature that is nipping at the eight-second quarter mile. Half the cylinders, twice the traction…you have to wonder if owner C.J. gloats over every win.
That’s some of the craziest wheel hop I’ve ever seen on the earlier footage.
nice but not very well set up.

kiwi1, That’s a much, much better car for sure.
“yawn“ v8 bait, really?
Just because you can spend enough money to make a 4 cylinder put out 1000 hp, doesn’t mean you should….
