This is stunning. You are looking at one of three remaining examples of a 1962 Chevrolet Impala Z-11 on Earth and this may damn well be the nicest one. The car has been concours restored and along with the restoration comes the history. The car won the 1963 NHRA Winternationals had drivers like Kelly Chadwick, Don Hardy, and event Mr. Chevrolet himself Dick Harrell. It has been displayed at places like the MCACN show where it scored 987 out of 1000. The car is just incredible.

If you are unfamiliar with the Z-11, this is a lightweight version of the Impala with a 430hp rated 409. It was the top of the Chevrolet factory drag racing heap in 1962 and it was a car that was quietly sold to some of the best racers the country at the time. Remember, 1962 was still the days of the “racing ban” that the manufacturers signed off on in 1957. Every one of them cheated that ban and the Z-11 stands as 1962’s evidence of that.

This four speed car is perfect in every way shape and form. In a dream world, we’d have enough money to buy this thing and actually race it. Why not? Sure it cost $200,000 but making a few laps, power shifting the four speed while listening to the 409 scream would be something and it would instantly put us in some sort of gearhead hall of fame for badassery.

Not a re-creation, not a tribute, not a fake. This is the genuine article and boy if we could afford it we’d have it in our hands tomorrow.
