I am not a gambler. Never really have been into throwing money at a table or a slot machine. Just not my thing. Now, with cars? Different program. There are few sure bets out there in any realm at the casino or on various web-based sales sites but today I have one for you. This 1978 Olds Starfire is a running and driving car with a factory installed V8 engine and a sale price of freaking $1,700. Less than $2,000 has you in a factory V8, late 1970s Olds. Not a Monza, not a Buick, a damned Olds! No, it does not have a four speed transmission but who cares? It has a solid body and chassis (according to the “no rust” part) and it’s a matter of swinging one engine out and another in when you want to make the sucker haul.
No, these are not great looking cars from the styling perspective but are we really interested in a beauty contest here? Hell, for $1,700 go in on it with some buddies, buy a nitrous plate kit and spray this little thing into Valhalla before actually making a proper hot rod of it.
The car is located in the San Francisco area of California and that’s why it has escaped the tin worm that so effectively consumed so many of these cars over the years. Don’t delay BangShifters, this one is literally priced to sell and someone here needs to own it…now!
Closest thing to a factory V-8 Vega that you will ever find. Looks like an easy project.
So true.
A 4- cylinder Vega front end coil rating:490 lbs./sq.inch
An 8-cylinder Monza front end coil rating:720 lbs./sq.inch
V8 Vegas FOREVER!
My dad had one of these Olds Starfires, ,77 I think, but with a 4 cylinder, 4 speed. It was a company car that had been passed down from a business partner that retired. That piece of crap couldn\’t get out of it\’s own way going downhill….worst car ever! Bet that V8 would be a blast to drive
260 olds wasn\’t much to brag about but these are great drag cars with RWD…check out bill travato\’s 9 second Starfire!
Look like an automatic to me just saying.
Too bad it’s on the wrong coast! Just my luck.
Oh c’mon. Fly out there with a friend and drive it back. Makes for a good time with good stories.
Know what? One of these days it just might happen! Only been as far west as Phoenix. Flights are cheap now too!
As a boy I was collecting money from my subscribers for the newspaper and in somebody\’s driveway was a brand new notch back Monza with a 5.7 small block. And I new that v8 vega was the way to go.So I hope it\’s still for sale An Olds no less.
I sold one of these new in 78 or 79 305 4 speed and a new Monza 305 4 speed around the same time.
I had a 283 Vega panel wagon, loved it. Also a 305 Monza Spyder, drove great but couldn’t keep front tires under it. 13 inch tires just don’t last under the weight of a small block.
One of my favorite GM steering wheels.
Did I hear turbo intercooled buick 3.8 Gnx treatment? I did in my head. She many not be the best looking but like my wife she will give you a ride you won\’t forget. Love you baby. xoxoxo.
Is it still for sale and location
