Saturday evening at Auto Club Pomona Raceway is a relief for drag racers after four competitive rounds of qualifying over two days for the 59th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals presented by ProtectTheHarvest.com.
Letting off some steam in the Pomona Raceway Media Center, after his post-qualifying interview, Top Fuel driver Steve Torrence grabbed the microphone to put some questions to Funny Car driver Robert Hight.
In the fourth round qualifier, Steve Torrence ran an awesome 3.657 seconds elapsed time at 331.61 mph to ace out his father Billy Torrance for the lead position, leaving his pop second.
Hight’s Chevy Camaro covered the funny car field with his stelar 3.871 seconds elapsed time at 329.67 mph.
This is a quick four minutes, but will give you window into the way 330 mile per hour drag racers chill. If only more drag racers would act real, candid and less corporate the way Torrence and Hight did in this video. Most of all, they are having fun!
The sound is a little weird at the start, but cleans up quickly.
