I grew up with a dad drag racing a stick car, that was shifted somewhere north of 7,500 rpm, so I’m used to someone grabbing gears like a champ. What’s always made me intrigued by stick shift drag racing is the different methods or techniques that some racers have. For some it is so smooth and drama free as to seem effortless. Others get wound up like none other and it is a whole body experience to make a shift. This video shows a dude in a blown 55 Chevy who’s got a technique somewhere in the middle. He’s working at it for sure, but man is he doing it well. Never, ever, does he consider lifting off the throttle, and he’s pushing and pulling the shifter for all he’s worth. It’s a Vertigate, or some other non-H pattern shifter he’s using to control the 4-speed, and it is working perfectly.

The car sounds awesome as well, so turn up the volume and enjoy the hell out of this one. If you own a stick car then you should go take it out this morning and pull a few gears of your own.
