The NHRA returns to my home track of New England Dragway this weekend for the 2019 NHRA New England Nationals and that’s why I decided to have Austin Prock, a top fuel rookie who has never raced at the track and Clay Millican, a top fuel veteran who dominated the place during his IHRA days as guests on the show. Both guys are currently in the top ten of the NHRA top fuel standings but both guys are needing to improve their station because there are too many cars to fit in said top ten and a few will be left out after we leave the Chevrolet Performance US Nationals later this summer.
The interviews are honest and fun. The guys open up about the pressures of success, trying to make a good impression as a rookie, and what actually makes a team successful. Prock has the line of the show when he says, “the race car knows”. He says this in relation to how the car performs in unison with the team around it. Strife, anger, frustration, and other issues all manifest themselves in the car’s performance. A good working unit makes a good working car. Millican expounds on this and takes us inside the world of being part of a full time drag racing operation. Human, cool, and different, these are NOT canned answers.
I also talk about who is performing, who isn’t and who needs to really get off their butts and get the show on the road as the second half of the season begins. A fun inside look into the world of NHRA Mello Yellowfins drag racing and the perfect way to kill your commute home from the office to kick off a long weekend!
