Crashed LS Turbo Drag And Drive Car Gets Rebuilt: The Maliboom Needs Some Love, And It’s Going To Get A Lot More Than That!

If you missed it, Dane Thompson’s Maliboom smacked the wall in Oklahoma during Rocky Mountain Race Week a few months ago and he’s been thrashing on it since. Despite lots of conjecture, it turns out that the real reason for the crash was nothing that anyone else guessed. It turns out that the press in plug that makes up the back of the stock LS water pump got pushed out and dumped the entire cooling system worth of water out and under the car. The crash wasn’t horrible, and nobody was hurt, but the Maliboom suffered suspension, body, and ultimately frame damage. In fact, it turns out the engine block was cracked and a few other things too. But all that can be fixed, it’s just a matter of deciding HOW it’s going to be fixed.

So to make a decision on how this sucker should be fixed, Dane has to get the chassis back to be straight. Or at least as straight as a 1965 Chevelle chassis can be. Then he can decide on what stuff is going to stay and what stuff is going to go, in an effort to make the car at least as quick, at least as fast, and at least as safe. So here are the first couple of videos in the rebuild series, starting with the trip to the frame shop.

Enjoy, and we’ll bring more!
