Performance Racing Industry Show 2017: The Valvoline Engine Display Has A Cutaway Blown Hemi And It Rules All

Performance Racing Industry Show 2017: The Valvoline Engine Display Has A Cutaway Blown Hemi And It Rules All

There are certain things that we have come to expect at the PRI show each year and at this Performance Racing Industry 2017 show the Valvoline guys delivered again with another awesome collection of engines. Not just a collect of engines but one in particular could be the neatest thing in the building. A cutaway blown 426 Chrysler Hemi provides a near anatomical view of the legendary engine and a uniqe peak into “how the sausage is made” inside and elephant motor.

It isn’t JUST the hemi though. Valvoline always collects some neat mills for display because after all, they’re an oil company. Their products are the juice that keeps said engines performing happily and reliability down the road for millions of revolutions at a whack. The first engine you’ll see is a venerable little Ford Flathead V8 topped with a performance intake manifold and a single Stromberg carb. This enduring symbol of V8 power to the common man will be cool as long as there are human beings on this Earth, so a few billion more years if we’re lucky.

There’s a blown modern fuel engine in there, there’s what I think I remember as being an ASA stock car engine, and then the good stuff. The Power Stroke diesel V8 is cool because we see so many Cummins and Duramax engines on display at this show, it is rare to actually see a naked Power Stroke on an engine stand. As many millions of them that are out there and as hardcore as the Ford enthusiasts are for their engine family, the headlines at PRI always seem to be dominated by the other two engines.

Now, the piece de resistance here is the hemi. This cutaway engine is absolutely spectacular in every way. We saw younger guys just straight up gawking at the thing, the mile-long looking pushrods, the brilliantly machined valve covers that show off the valve train on top of those big iron heads, and a peek into the supercharger for good measure.

I love this cutaway engine for the simple fact that so much of these shows is just way over the top and it is designed to attract attention via the “shiny thing” theory. This cutaway engine gets attention the old fashioned way. By being fascinating and cool it lures you in and dares you not to look. Simply put, Valvoline’s engine collection at PRI 2017 is 100% BangShift approved!

That’sa (392?) first-gen Hemi, w/ rear-mount distributor and short-skirted block being some giveaways. Very neat cutaway motor, I always love those.
