Day Three PRO Winter Warm-Ups, Mike Salinas & Alan Johnson 3.747 ET!

(Photos by Big Bob Snyder) – Day three of the PRO Winter Warm-ups at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park had more teams, new bodies and performance. The season opening Lucas Oil Winternationals at Auto Club Pomona Raceway February 7-10 will showcase the quickest and fastest in today’s NHRA drag racing.

With the full time attention of Alan Johnson and new Crew Chief Brian Husen, Mike Salinas’ Scrappers Racing team Top Fueler was a Friday standout, running 3.747 elapsed time at 296.24 mph. Salinas has a completely new crew since Johnson left John Force Racing with most of the 2017 Championship winning crew, over the winter.

Jordan Vandergriff’s 3.738 ET at 325.85 MPH puts him among the quick three top fuelers behind 2018 Champion Steve Torrence and his pops Billy. Both CAPCO Contractors teams have already departed Phoenix for the Pomona Fairplex.

With the shake-ups over the winter on Clay Millican’s dragster, 4.925 ET was the quickest he could run with new Crew Chief Mike Kloeber.

In funny car Robert Hight’s 3.863 ET at 326.87 miles per hour Friday testing led the pack in his JFR Chevrolet-bodied Camaro.

Thursday top runner, J.R. Todd in his Kalitta Motorsports DHL Toyota Camry and Shawn Langdon in the Global Electronic Technology Funny Car have shown strong consistency, with veteran Del Worsham now overseeing the Global-backed Toyota.

Cruz Pedregon’s Snap-On-backed Dodge has, reportedly, has a completely new team as well.

Jim Maroney was shaking down Texan Kim Davidson’s top fueler, Davidson is yet to complete his NHRA licensing.

The PRO Winter Warm-ups continue on Saturday and Big Bob Snyder will be there again for BANGShift, during Friday’s testing he cruised on down to the top end for some awesome parachute shots.
