Drag Racing Video: NHRA Stock Eliminator Drag Racing ELIMINATIONS JEGS SPORTSNationals

Stock Eliminator will always be near and dear to my heart as it is the class I grew up with as a kid in Northern California. My dad raced his 68 Z28 Camaro as an F/Stock car and it was always fun to watch him dump the clutch at 7000 rpm on 9-inch slicks. Stock Eliminator is the first true small-tire drag racing category and every car in the class is limited to a 9 inch wide slick with a maximum height of 30 inches. Keep in mind that 9 second ETs on these tires, with the wheels in the air, are common place and that’s with engine combos that are limited to blueprinting, camshafts that must retain stock lift numbers, and only minor valvetrain upgrades. They must run stock replacement pistons, rods, valves, etc. There is some trickery going on here, but nothing like building a high end race engine full of wazoo parts. With that said, there is nothing “stock” about the power numbers these cars are making. They are badasses for sure.

All Stock Eliminator combinations are based on weight and horsepower. Pounds per horsepower to be exact. With dozens of classes, the performance levels vary wildly, but handicapped starts make it some really close and fun to watch racing, especially because these cars still believe in wheelstands which we love.
