Drag Week 2013 Photos – Action Shots From The Last Day At Beech Bend Raceway In Bowling Green

(Photos by Justin Oney) – The last day of Hot Rod Drag Week is interesting every year. For the start of the session it is tense and potentially drama filled as guys make a last clean run to see just how fast they can go with the pressure of breaking their stuff  off because the trucks and trailers are waiting for them at the end of the track. Perhaps the ultimate example of this in 2013 was Tom Bailey. He and Steve Morris set the car up to run a six and then they would start throwing down some totally heroic numbers. Well on the run where they got the six second slip, the windows sucked out and busted the composite outer door skin.

Racers in all of the other classes also made their farewell laps. Travis Gilpin in Todd Maschmeier’s Camaro hammered home a seven second average in the nitrous swilling machine shown in this this gallery, several other competitors solved near deadlock ties in the last few races of the entire week. That is a poetic end to a contest that sees amazing levels of competition between some of the wildest vehicles in North America, and yet it still comes down to the last day.

Justin did a great job blasting these photos from all over the track and we know you’ll dig ’em. If all of the coverage you have seen through 1320 Video, Hot Rod Magazine, here at BangShift, and other places, isn’t enough, I’d recommend and other hobby. This week was a riot and we’re glad Justin was there to captiure its end!
