Hot Or Not? Dyno Testing The New Gen III Edelbrock Hemi Head Against Factory Stockers

Loads and loads of people in the high performance aftermarket have long been looking at the Gen III hemi as the sleeping giant in the room. Yes, the LS and now LT engines have a massive share of the market and the attention of the market. Yes, the Coyote engine is great and the Ford guys are also being more and more embraced by the aftermarket but the Gen III Hemi has not yet had that explosive moment where enthusiasts look around and say, “Ah HA!” and then go to town making horsepower.

There are many manufacturers out there making parts for these engines but Edelbrock is really the first of the mainline, old guard companies to throw down with a set of cylinder heads for this mill that are designed for the enthusiast on the street and strip.

Using a 5.7L engine as a test bed here, you will see back to back dyno results of tuning the factory heads and then letting these new and untouched Edelbrock roar. The results are pretty wild especially given the very tame nature of this engine. More camshaft, a power adder, and you are talking near exponential gains in power.

Yes, we know this was on a 5.7L engine and not the Apache headed 392 which would have not given as dramatic result but the reality is that there are millions more 5.7L engines out there than the 392s so this is very real world feeling to us.

Edelbrock seems to have a real hit on their hands here.
