Ever wonder what it is like to try and pedal an 11,000hp nitro funny car? Ever wonder what goes through a driver’s head when he or she is sitting there watching the cars ahead of them blow the tires off on a 130+ degree race track? So didn’t I! That’s why I invited JR Todd and Ron Capps onto the NHRA Insider Podcast to talk about their experience at the blazing hot NHRA Virginia Nationals.
Capps and Todd weathered the storm well enough to make the final round in Virginia and they did it with guts, guile, and loads of experience. Capps won the hardest fought event of the 2019 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing season in nitro funny car and to hear him tell the story is to really understand what it is like when funny cars are racing in furnace like temperatures.
Both of these guys are funny, insightful, and cool about their experience and both have plenty to say.
This Podcast was made just before the 2019 Indy 500 was run so there’s some 500 chat and plenty of laughs as the number two and three drivers in the NHRA funny car standings recount their battle of a weekend in Virginia. Chicago is coming this week, so get caught up on the fun today!
