Great Save! Two PDRA Pro Nitrous Racers Seem Headed For Certain Destruction But Emerge Unscathed

The PDRA’s crazed brand of eighth mile drag racing has provided lots of hair raising moments over the years but few of them have looked as ominous as this one and ended as happily. In the video below you are going to see PDRA racers Travis Harvey and Johnny Camp competing at Rockinham as part of the 2016 season event.  Both cars are sporting massive 900+  cubic inch nitrous engines and the duo both come off the line like they mean it. It is Harvey in the lane closest to the camera and Camp across the track.

As you will see Harvey’s car essentially decides that it has had enough of the lane it is in and wants to try the other one. Seemingly without warning, it shoots across the track inches ahead of Camp, stopping short of hitting the wall and amazingly neither car incurs any visible damage. We assume that at least one of the fire suits was a biohazard disposal piece after all this excitement and we don’t know which one was in the worse position. Was it Harvey sitting in the car heading across the track and staring certain doom in the face or Camp who was minding his own business when a wayward Camaro came streaking over to interrupt his run? The great news is that outside of a dead foam block, all was right with the world.

The chassis of these cars have come a long way but the physics remains the same and trying to put all that power through the wheelbase and with the basic configuration cars like this have means that excitement and craziness are always knocking at the door. Don’t think you need to be a driver to handle one of these cars? Watch this and rethink that.

Luckily, the orange car looks like it was starting to get out of shape just before the other car came over…
