“They’re violent and twitchy, unpredictable and scary, they’re exceptionally hairy, Fuel Altereds for the win!” Yeah, I know…the autumnal equinox is hours away as I type this and I’m already getting in the Halloween spirit. I’ve been humming the theme to “The Addams Family” all day, thanks to the upcoming cartoon movie’s ads playing everywhere on the Internet. And in some really messed up way, I can see the connection here between the macabre family and the wildest class of cars in drag racing. Violent? All day long, buddy, you had better believe that. Those engines have a shelf life of minutes between rebuilds, and that’s under the best of circumstances. Twitchy? Short wheelbase vehicles with tons of power at their disposal tend to be. Unpredictable? Some stay in a straight line from startup to shutdown. But not all of them. Some Altereds act like a bump-n-go toy on nitrous, others took their burnout activity cues from the Professional Bull Riders.
