Motor Trend’s Annual Ode To Horsepower: Which One Of The 2016 Greatest Driver’s Car Contenders Will Take The Drag Race Win?

Motor Trend’s Annual Ode To Horsepower: Which One Of The 2016 Greatest Driver’s Car Contenders Will Take The Drag Race Win?

To everyone at Motor Trend: quit lying to yourselves and to the world. This is as far removed from “work” as you can possibly get. Every year, Motor Trend wrangles up a massive shopping list of the most desirable four-wheeled creations that have recently hit the market (or have recently undergone major changes), bring back the winner from the previous year as the benchmark, and proceed to terrorize Southern California until the liquor is gone, the gas cards are maxed out, and they have declared a winner. For 2016, they put together one hell of a lineup: just to make a point, the slowest car here will run a 12.4 @ 114.2 MPH quarter mile. The SLOWEST car here is a mid-twelve stormer, complete with air conditioning and a freaking warranty. Work? Please.

From one of the most balanced pony cars you can buy on the market to a legitimate hyper car, from the blunt-force-trauma Viper ACR to the techno-geek-dream Acura NSX, they’re lined up and ready to go. Except for one notable absence and replacement: the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish S, complete with a row-yer-own manual trans, isn’t here. Instead, Jason Cammisa managed to “acquire” the key to somebody’s Dodge Charger Hellcat. It’s outclassed and outran, but it has arguably one of the best introductions ever seen…and for once, the campy smile on Cammisa’s face is probably genuine.
