(Photos by Benoit Pigeon) –It was a nitrous vs turbocharged battle in the final round of the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA pro mod class at the Thunder Valley Nationals last weekend. Jose Gonzales got the job done over Bob Rahaim after his big nitrous engine got, well, unhappy in the latter part of the run. The action was intense and crazy as qualifying put strong racers in unfamiliar positions. For instance, Gonzales was the 16th guy on the sheet! Erica Enders missed the cut but got in as an alternate after Marc Caruso had a hard entrance into the track’s sand trap at the top end.

The pro mod action continues this weekend in Norwalk, Ohio for the Summir Racing Equipment Nationals. The race will be interesting as heavy and continued rains have forced officials to cancel the sportsman categories because of lack of suitable and non-submerged parking.
