No Prep Nastiness From Texas: Pit And Track Action From The Bounty Hunters No Prep Shootout – San Antonio

No Prep Nastiness From Texas: Pit And Track Action From The Bounty Hunters No Prep Shootout – San Antonio

(Photos by Charles Wickam) – A couple of weeks ago the richest no-prep drag race in the history of the sport was held at San Antonio Raceway in San Antonio, Texas. The Bounty Hunters No Prep Shootout was a wild time.  While that title will not hold for long with the upcoming “American Outlaws Live” race that is due to be contested at the Texas Motorplex, the scene in San Antonio was still wild. The big tire class paid $50,000 to win and that meant that every big no prep hitter in the country was there as well as many traditional racers in pro mods and top sportsman cars giving it a rip. There was a small tire class of racing as well and that provided some of its own excitement and antics but it was the big tire stuff that really packed them into San Antonio.

The event was very well attended, with the current track operators at the facility telling anyone who would listen that it was the biggest crowd that they had ever seen. Draws like Kye Kelley, Larry Larson, Birdman, and others were there and ready to get the job done. Our own heavy hitter, Charles Wickam was on the grounds with his picture taking machine and started blasting the second he walked into the track both the pits and along the wall.

Charles sent us a ton of great photos and we’re going to share them with you over the coming days. Here’s the first batch for your viewing pleasure. If you hate no-prep racing tell us why! Events like these boil the sport down to its most basic elements. A starting light and a win light. There are no time slips, no incremental times, no score boards, just someone getting to the other end first. Isn’t that what it was all about in the beginning?
