Top Fuel Pro Mod Video: Scott Palmer’s Studebaker May Not Be Perfected Yet, But It Sure is Amazing

To know Scott Palmer is to love Scott Palmer. Not in a weird way, but in a drag racer/hot rodder way. In the kind of way that any awesome person you’ve ever seen do cool things is. Scott is one of top fuel’s most awesome stories, boot strapping himself to the highest level of drag racing, working to be competitive, and now a legit top 10 racer in the category each season. One thing that Scott has not lost is his wild streak, and certainly not his penchant for having fun. Thats why he built and has (a handful of times) brought out a pro mod that’s powered by a legit top fuel engine. Same engine, clutch, clutch management, and all that is in his Magic Dry top fuel dragster is sitting there in the ‘Stude.

Recently between the Houston and Charlotte NHRA races, Palmer decided to bring the car out to Osage Raceway Park in Tulsa during one of their midnight drags test and tune events. Why? Because this is what he does for fun. He was not brushing up on his gardening skills, golf game, or macrame classes. No, he was wanting to get out onto the track, have some fun, and clear his head.

While the runs do not go as smoothly as possible, these guys are trying to do something that legitimately no one has ever done and no one really knows what happens when it “works”. We’re reasonably sure it will end up being the quickest and fastest full bodied car in drag racing history when he is done but that is going to take a hot second.

Man, we love this thing.

Tell you what, I would pay to see these instead of our current funny cars. Many moons ago Super Chevy had a similar class running 25% pop and it was a blast to hear and see!
