Seven Seconds? Cleetus Takes The Newly Re-Engined Leroy Back TO The Track!

Seven Seconds? Cleetus Takes The Newly Re-Engined Leroy Back TO The Track!

A brand new engine, plenty of work to the fuel system, and lots of seat time in the red Corvette have had Cleetus on edge. Nothing against the C6 Corvette that he’s been messing with for a few months now, but we know his one true automotive love: Leroy the Savage. The 2001 Corvette-based monster that is now it’s own enigma has been down for a bit and recently, has been blessed with a new build. What hasn’t changed is that right up front are two snails that are feeding one very nasty mill. What has changed is underneath those turbos…a Texas Speed and Performance LSX mill is underneath and it’s a damn stout piece, barking out 1,280 horsepower and 1,069 ft/lbs of torque at just under 20psi of boost. That’s the kind of power you can feel in your bones, all right!

Now it’s track time. Now the fun of dyno time can be put to the test. And now it’s time to see if Cleetus and Leroy are both up to the task of ripping the strip a brand new one. Theoretically, the car should be good for a seven-second timeslip. But will it make it there, or will new car issues and a driver who is a bit rusty combine to end the day on a sour note?
