Southeast Gassers Super Stock Action Photos: Yes! 1967 Rule Book Super Stockers!

Southeast Gassers Super Stock Action Photos: Yes! 1967 Rule Book Super Stockers!

(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – The event at Clay City was the debut of the new SEGA Super Stock class.  This is still a three-pedal-only class with rules that reflect 1967 rulebook parameters.  Five cars stayed through the Saturday rains and postponement to contend for a title.  From our vantage point it seemed traction was limited for these cars and following this event SEGA has amended the rules to allow slapper bars.  This change should allow the cars to get a decent bite for some wheels-up action.  Mopars outnumbered the FoMoCo 3 to 2 while hardtops outnumbered wagons 3 to 2.  The pale yellow ’65 Comet was almost too nice to see out there racing.  Almost.

We had a couple exhibition cars stick around through the rain.  Rocky Platt wheeled the Dixie Flyer and Paul Combest brought out his H/Gas bug.  H/Gas may very well become a SEGA class as more cars meet the standards and bring some small-displacement action into the game.  We know of one car that is ready to take Paul on and more are in the works.  Yes, that is a 2nd gear wheelie.  It’s a quick, little period-correct hot rod.

The last handful or so of photos are random vehicles present during the event.  We’d hoped more folks would bring their older cars out to fill out the background with period-looking rides for some really cool images, but the rain and the threat of more likely kept most away.  We did run into a heavy downpour on the way home that slowed us to about 40mph on I-64 so their decision to stay home was valid.

This is likely my last article of SEGA.  This stuff is best left up to folks who travel with the group and are more closely-tied to the Association.  With the notoriety of the South East Gassers they really don’t need my help getting the word out or keeping the coverage fresh.

Hope you all enjoyed.

Please continue to with articles on The Southeast Gassers Association. While SEGA is growing, we still need all the exposure we can get. SEGA is at a pivotal point in time, where all the publicity we can get will take SEGA to the next level. BangShift.com can be instrumental in cementing SEGA as THE period correct racing association that the fans want to see.
As a car crew member and diehard fan, I thank for all your support.
