The Monday Shift: Ride Along At The Ohio Mile In The Kuntz and Kuntz Production Pickup!

The Monday Shift: Ride Along At The Ohio Mile In The Kuntz and Kuntz Production Pickup!

This coming weekend is the opening race of the 2018 ECTA land speed racing season. The Ohio Mile is gone and the organization has moved to Blytheville, Arkansas, there’s new racers, new management, and a new venue. It all should be pretty awesome. Because the standing mile racers will be on the throttle this weekend we figured that a land speed video would be a good way to kick off the week. Land speed racing has been and always will be a favorite around here. It is challenging, it is creative, and it is grassroots!

When it comes to land speed racing elements like horsepower, torque, traction, and aerodynamics play a large part in determining the fate of any racing operation. Competitors in the “production” categories are truly doing it the hard way because their vehicles have to confirm to very strict rules with regard to aerodynamics. Ratcheting that up a level is production pickup where a pickup truck her to serve as the basis o the vehicle and its crummy bluntness cannot be messed with to help it get through the air. Compounding the hardness of all of this is sliding down the alphabet. Why? The deeper into the letter list you go the smaller the engine in the truck has to be. So when we are talking about AA production pickup we’re talking about a huge motor thundering its way down the track. When we are talking about a C/production pickup like this truck, we are talking about a small block screaming its way down the mile long course.

The Kuntz and Kuntz C/production pickup has been a staple at ECTA events for years. The guys are awesome, the truck is fast and fun and on this lap the thing runs over 155 mph. It has been more than 160 mph and the number keeps climbing. In this video you’ll ride along with Bill Kuntz as he hammers the four speed and mashes the gas to sprint down the track. You don’t have the love Chevrolets to love this video. It is the essence of hot rodding. Build something you want, work your ass off, and make it go as fast as possible.

LSR is neat stuff! See everyone there this weekend. Hoping that Mutt will break 130.

I haven’t had much chance to chew the fat w/the Kuntzes – I need to fix that!

Sorry to disappoint, but I don’t think they will be in attendance.

I’ll be there. Can’t wait to hear the diesel fury of that little truck of yours Dan!

This whole write-up would be better if there was mention of the year, brand and model of the Kuntz’s truck, because the vid doesn’t show anything to help ID the truck……….
