Ohio Mile Coverage: From 150mph Station Wagons To 120mph Crosleys We Caught It all

Ohio Mile Coverage: From 150mph Station Wagons To 120mph Crosleys We Caught It all

(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – The white, Canadian Pontiac Strato Chief wagon ran itself right past the 150 mark to a 151.4mph best.  We dig the classics and Steve Robey’s ’55 is one of our favorites.  The classic, unspoiled lines of the timeless ’55 that sailed to 156.8mph is hard to beat.  Mike Warren’s ‘World’s Fastest Model T Coupe’ didn’t disappoint as it went just under 206mph.  The twin-turbo BBC was singing the song of our people loud and clear.  Joe Jolly and son made the haul and brought out their 4-eye Mustang hatch then herded it up to 186.4mph.  Records aren’t all about who went the fastest.  It’s more about getting the most out of your combination.  The competitors and fans alike cheer if someone is trying to break 80mph or 240.  Everyone studies, tunes, and struggles to get that next tenth.  Seeing a cool 1972 Norton Commando run 130mph was quite a deal and is no less a spectacle than a modern super bike running 200+.  Come on out and have a look for yourself if you haven’t been.  If you do I can almost guarantee you’ll be back.

1951 Crosley Super Sport spirited up to 110.6 mph.

Black ’09 SRT8 Challenger is a frequent flyer here and topped at 171.8mph.

Keselowski Dodge stock car ran a conservative (for it) 218.5mph.

Stark Racing’s bright-yellow RX7 thundered down the strip to a 168.9mph best.

The gorgeous Studebaker Avanti went 139mph using pure Stude power.

Flathead-powered ‘Fastrod’ ’32 Ford coupe sped to 131.9mph.

Frequent competitor Silvis Racing streamliner knifed through the air to the tune of 163.1mph.

The Pegasus II Firebird had a speedy last run up to 195.8mph.

Project 212 custom, yellow two-wheeler reached 151.7mph

One of the best-looking bikes out there is the #732 ’71 Triumph which clocked a top speed of 148.4mph.

Enjoy the photos.
