This Straight Axle 1957 Ford Has A Blown Y-Block, A Roll Bar, and Spirit For Days

1957 was a seminal year for American cars. Many of the models rolling out of factories that year have risen to iconic status among gearheads. Of course the 1957 Chevrolets are probably the most famous cars of that year but the 1957 Fords had much of the panache and while different, many of the strong styling cues that defined the era. This particular version of a 1957 Ford is among the coolest we have ever run across. Not just because of the stance, not just because of the largely unchanged interior, but because it has a supercharged Y-Block engine under the hood and not a McCulloch blown Y-Block but a roots blown piece that is totally awesome.

The key to this puzzle according to the eBay ad is the manifold that the blower is bolted to which is made in Australia and cannot be all that common because we have have seen very few roots blown Y-blocks in our years of prowling the country’s car shows, drag races, and electronic selling venues here on BangShift.

The seller claims that the car was a racer way back when and while that’s interesting and all we find it to be largely irrelevant to its current sub zero levels of coolness. The front end is a Speedway Motors conversion piece which has disc brakes. There are Cragar mags on the corners, Hurst Racing Tires up front and in the back, as well as the original Ford 9″ rear axle equipped with 3.90 gears to shove the car down the road.

The ad goes into all the good details about the 4-71 blower and the rest of the car but we think this thing is BangShifty as hell and it really just needs a four speed to be one of the most fun things we have seen in a while. What do you think?
