The NHRA’s return to Maple Grove Raceway was pretty amazing last weekend. With a near sellout crowd on Friday and then blow out, knock the fences over crowds on Saturday and Sunday, the place was crazy. For the first time anyone can remember there wasn’t a stitch of rain over the course of the whole weekend and that allowed for amazing performances across all categories.
Steve Johnson won the pro stock motorcycle class and assumed the point lead over the rest of the field. Greg Anderson won his 97th career pro stock race, tying the all time mark established by Warren Johnson and now stands one Wally away from being the winningest racer of all time in the category and just three away from breaking the century mark, which is rarified air that only a scant handful of people have ever reached across any category of drag racing. Tommy Johnson Jr. pinch hitting for Matt Hagan won the nitro funny car category and because of the NHRA Covid-19 policy, his points went into the coffers of Matt Hagan who he was subbing for. Finally, Billy Torrence won Top Fuel in a nail-biter over Justin Ashley.
The NHRA playoffs are on and the cream is rising to the top!
