Interview Video: Tony Schumacher Is Back Full Time In NHRA Top Fuel For 2022 – He Talks About How It Came Together

The news bombs have been dropping around NHRA in quick succession over the last two weeks. The first huge one to hit was the announcement by DSR that Tony Schumacher would be racing full time in top fuel for the 2022 NHRA Camping World season. The funding comes from the Maynard Family Foundation and the work to find a sponsor that was committed to getting onto the race track in a full time manner is part of this discussion with Schumacher.

Tony was able to come back and run the majority of the truncated 2020 schedule in order to help DSR fulfill sponsor obligations in a shortened schedule situation. He proved that he’d not lost a step in that campaign, culminating in an awesome win over Steve Torrence late in the season. That win and how he handled the car proved that the winningest top fuel driver ever had not lost a step. He knew he still had it, the team just needed to find a partner that had the same vision. And they have.

This conversation is cool because it goes beyond the “glad to be back” stuff. It has been two years of work to make this happen and the top fuel category is now going to get even tougher. If that’s possible!
