Normally when we show you video from Iceland, it features huge trucks climbing up impossibly steep hills, skittering over water, or just being generally bad ass. Well consider you Icelandic motorsports horizons expanded because it turns out sand drag racing is exploding in popularity on the island nation. We’ve seen some cool sand drag racing videos but none of them have had a slingshot dragster in the starring role as this one does! The digger, literally, is equipped with a 406ci small block, nitrous, and paddle tires where the slicks would be on asphalt.

In this video things get wild and weird and from the camera mounted on top of the roll bar, we get a great idea at just how nuts stuff can get when the course is made of dirt! We’re thinking that these guys are racing on a 600ft long strip because in other videos there are racers recording elapsed times in the 3.50-3.60 range and that wouldn’t be feasible on a 660′ course, so it is at least shorter than that.

Watch this dragster launch, carry the front end and then smash into the dirt several times. All the while the dude in the other lane is throwing monster rooster tails of sand and if you pay close attention you can see that car burst into flames at the end of the run. The engine in the sling shot had to have swallowed some dirt in all of this madness and the driver was probably picking the junk out of his teeth for a week!
