Watch Mats Eriksson Fight To Save His Pro Mod At Santa Pod But Still Eat Some Wall Anyway

Watch Mats Eriksson Fight To Save His Pro Mod At Santa Pod But Still Eat Some Wall Anyway

We hate when stuff like this happens. See, Mats Erikkson is a certified bad ass pro mod racer from Sweden who drives the “Green Goblin” which is a 1956 Ford Crown Victoria which is packing a Brad Anderson hemi which is blown on alcohol. No weak sister, this boxy car has plunged down into the 5-second zone and Eriksson is certainly one of the hitters on the European scene. He was at Santa Pod last weekend for the track’s long running “Main Event” race. Unfortunately the weekend was marred by rain and all kinds of other junk falling form the sky, but early on in the contest, racers were able to get some runs in. Unfortunately for Eriksson, this one did not end the way that he wanted it to.

As you’ll see in the video, the car leaves the starting line with the wheels way up and trucking. The run goes south when the car lands because it is upset and decides to change lanes as which point Eriksson begins a titanic wrestling match with the wayward car which ultimately sees him get the thing up on two wheels, bring it down from two wheels and then smack both walls. It looks to us like the steering broke on the car when it was trying to earn a spot in a Hollywood stunt driving school. We think the steering went out because when he has the big smack nearing the end, the car is heading straight across with no attempts to correct the wheels. Essentially, Eriksson was along for the ride.

Here’s hoping that the Green Goblin gets fixed up and is ready to rock and roll before the nest FIA pro mod meet!

Fortunately Mats was okay. He is a Swedish chassis builder and so repair/replacement will be easier for him. Yes there was a lot of rain but Sunday was sunny and dry all day. Three rounds of Top Fuel dragster qualifying was completed with the best et of a 3.90. It was a brilliant day of racing taking in some of the sportsman classes as well.

I watched the feed from the ‘Pod on Sunday and was proper excited about going on Monday and then it was washed out. Damn weather! I got to thinking about if it was possible to build an indoor drag strip.
