Watch This Budget Built, Powerglide Equipped, Turbo LS Mustang Wound Feelings At The Roll Races

Roll racing on airport runways is becoming ever more popular these days. Owners of supercars, hypercars, and modified machines love the style of competition that is easier on drivetrain parts than drag racing and allows them to experience big speed. Lots of Corvettes, Lambos, GTRs and other exotica fill these events. You can only imagine their reaction when they saw the Mustang called Dragnfly come in the gate. We’re guessing that they thought the little Ford cars was cute enough and that the thing was another drag car that was about to be swallowed whole by their high tech stuff.

You cannot really blame them, can you? A turbocharged LS junkyard engine, a two speed Powerglide transmission, and the aerodynamics of a small building it isn’t exactly intimidating looking in comparison. Little did they know that this car is a devastatingly fast rocket but they learned quick. You will see this machine laying out some of that big dollar stuff while running in the 160-170mph range at the event.

During eliminations, the Mustang went rounds and actually went deep into the rounds. It is very fun to watch this thing work and it sounds really good as the tach needle twists off the end of the gauge. Seeing him pull the ‘chute at the end of every run is pretty awesome as well.

We all love an underdog and while this car certainly looked that part everyone quickly learned that it was a monster! Fun stuff.

I hope that this wheeled bastard did truly roll squashing, mangling and burning the walking talking piece of human excrement that brought it into the world!

Methinks its time to unleash an FE-powered Camaro and get my own back….

We talk about budget builds like this guy’s total investment was a few hundred dollars. Seriously? Anyone who has actually ever built a car knows it’s not just the initial cost of the car, motor, tranny. It’s the fuel cell and pumps, wiring, shifter/linkage, twin turbochargers, motor /tranny mounts, cage, seat, differential…..the list goes on.
I’m going to take a stab in the dark and say this car is a minimum $10,000 investment.(And I still think I’m low balling it)
Not trying to pick a fight, just trying to clear the air on what a “budget build” is anymore.

How about that for a bang shift question of the day? What is the maximum amount you can spend on a project, and still have it be considered a budget build?
