Woah Baby! Watch This Driver Make A Top End Save When The Motor Kicks A Freeze Plug Out!

This video was made in the car of driver Rich Yale who competes in the Wild Street 8.50 index class. He was making a qualifying pass with frequent BangShifty guest celebrity Jon Sandahl in the other lane. Jon was in his screaming orange Nova and Yale was in his Mustang. As you’ll see, Sandahl got out of the gate first and made a stout run down the race track. This was one of those “thank God that happened” situations because when Yale was approaching the finish line at something like 150mph, his car spit out a freeze plug and hosed the rear tires with water.

With Jon far out front and Yale’s coming across the centerline, the only risk was Yale’s car wadding itself up on the wall but as you will see, he did a heck of a job saving it from any sort of damage. How? He got the parachutes out at just about the same instant that the plug came out and that allowed him to get control back and keep the thing off the wall. That’s a veteran move.

From the stands it looked pretty scary but from inside the car it is downright freaky! You’ll understand that Yale has some choice words to utter after this experience. Nice piece of driving by him and we’re glad that he did not so much as scrape the paint!
