The World’s Fastest: This Bonneville Documentary Project Looks As Though It Could Be Incredible

We are freaks for documentary films around here and when one pops up that is about not only Bonneville but the legendary minds and men that have been challenged by the place for decades, we’re hooked. This film is called The World’s Fastest and as you will see in the trailer/preview below it seems to center around the elder statesmen of racing on the salt. These men are among the most interesting personalities and stories in racing. They have been there since damned near the beginning of Speed Week and they are still vexed, inspired, and driven to create vehicles that will go faster than any others before them.

One of the men you will see in this video is Jack Costella who has constructed a series of streamliners since the 1980s called “Nebulous Theorem”. They are minuscule things which seem to be impossibly small when you consider that there’s actually a human being inside of them driving. They’ve gone very, very fast over the years and you’ll see the latest version in Jack’s shop during this clip. Costella has been going to Bonneville for nearly 50 years now.

There’s the Sundowner Corvette and Duane McKinney along with a handful of other salt legends in this video. The full-length film will be absolutely stunning if it is 25% as good as this trailer. We’re freaks for Bonneville and history and this seems like it is right in our wheelhouse.

I had no idea how tiny a streamliner was until I saw them in person at Bonneville. The opening picture is one of the few pictures where you don’t accidentally imagine them in 1.5X scale.

There is a no more respected-loved group in racing lore….than raisins on salt.

I first met Jack Costella 18 years ago on my first visit to Bonneville & he hasn\’t aged one bit. He is a living library on Bonneville & what it takes to go fast. Through his kindness & sort of taking this Kentucky \”hillbilly\” under his wing, is the reason we are fortunate enough to be racing the ROMANS 10:10 Crosley race car. Jack & Keyko Costella are true pioneers in the world of land speed racing. Looking forward to see this documentary on The World\’s Fastest.
