This 1968 Pontiac Grand Prix Is A Beatiful Oddball – Green With A Gold Roof And Interior?!

Now don’t get us wrong, this 1968 Pontiac Grand Prix is a beautiful car. Less than 50,000 original miles, a surgically perfect interior, 400 4bbl under the hood, console, eight lug wheels, and flawless paint. All of that being said, whoever buys this thing has to have some unique tastes. The color combo on this car is one of the weirder we have ever seen from a stock late 1960s car. The shade of green on the body is unique enough but to pair it with the gold roof and guts, you really have something different here. In fact, we have NEVER seen another car with this combo foisted upon it.

The styling of this era of GP is kind of odd as well. We love the menacing nose of the car but the roofline and the rear quarter panels are not our favorite. The car looks less brutal than it could because of how the roof kind of tails off and then there’s the skirted rear wheel openings which are not our favorite either.

The interior of the car is the same color as the roof and it is beautiful. We love the fact that this is a bucket/console car instead of a bench/column shifter deal. Changes the whole attitude of things in there. The gold interior does not strike us as weird as the gold roof and the two of them together seems like it may be a little much.

Is it just us or is this a car that’ll have a more limited audience than if it were, say, black?

There’s nothing that liberal lashings of fine gloss black paint and soft black leather couldn’t cure….

I’d leave it as-is. The possible deal breaker would be the car has no A/C or PW. It’s a GP! I’d expect those two options.

I recall a small number of big Pontiacs from my childhood that were a similar green with a painted gold roof. Unfortunately the gold had more copper tones in it. Wasn’t a pretty combo. We didn’t get that Grand Prix up here, either. The Canadian Grand Prix, prior to 1969, was a Laurentian-based unit and not as pretty.

That’s actually not as bad as you would think. Not great, but better than other combinations over the years.
