The Hulkin’ Hyundai – There Could Be A 350hp Mid-Engine Hot Hatch Brewing From South Korea

The Hulkin’ Hyundai – There Could Be A 350hp Mid-Engine Hot Hatch Brewing From South Korea

(By Tom Lohnes) – Homologation specials are a beautiful thing. Meant for racing but sold to the public, these cars have all been great. Some very famous homologation specials include the Dodge Charger Daytona, BMW M1, and Mercedes CLK-GTR. And there might be another one coming soon, in the form of a Small Hyundai hatchback. But there’s a catch.

Now, what could be so special about a little South Korean hatchback, you ask? Well, maybe because it has 350 horsepower, is being developed on the Nürburgring, and, oh yeah, it’s mid-engined. What would this special be for?

Well probably WRC. Hyundai entered WRC a few years ago with their i30N GRC car, which competes in a smaller division, but is still a beast. For WRC, Hyundai might be developing this hot hatch, codenamed the RM19, this thing would be similar to the Renault Clio V6, which was also mid-engined and had a V6 engine, as well as all-wheel-drive. But, instead of 230 horsepower, the RM19 might have the group’s 3.3-liter Twin-Turbo V6 that pumps out 365 horsepower and 376 lb.-ft of torque. Also, they have a chance of using a 6-speed manual or a new wet-clutch, 8-speed dual-clutch automatic that the brand has been developing for a while now.

Being a supposed homologation special means some special prices. It is very likely the RM19 will be limited-run, and it is a possibility it will not even be sold here. If this thing ever comes to the streets, expect prices above $70,000.

If this car is ever sold in the U.S., more than half will be in a Co-Parts yard within a year.
