AWD and Angry: This 1986 Ford RS200 Makes 600hp and Has A Load Of Race History

There are cars that transcend the ages. I have two young sons. They are 9 and 11 years old. They are wild about cars. Figure that, right? Anyway, they (like loads of kids) are into video games and some of those games have all kinds of cars to pick from. I often see them hauling tail around some imaginary world in a Ford RS200 like the one you see here.

I showed them the video below and their eyes got as big around as pie plates because this cool thing they had only seen in animation and graphics was real and screaming as a guy jammed through the gears. This video is cool because we get some history, we get plenty of cool shots of the car, and we get the payoff of seeing this monster accelerate. When you hear this thing pull and listen to how it sounds when the turbos actually start making boost it’ll make the hair on the back of your neck stand up!

This is a rare car, one of apparently four “works” RS200 examples built for the 1986 rally season. The car made 550hp in original form but with an engine rebuild and more modern tuning this one makes about 600. The cars raced in the famed “Group B” class of rally. This particular car ran three WRC events during the 1986 season and you’ll hear about them as you watch the video.

The visual of this car is awesome with its brace of lights on the nose, the sound of the car is amazing as it rips down the road and the history of the car matches all of it. This is one killer little machine that we’d LOVE to give the business to. Hell, my kids liked it better than the video game.
