The USCA Optima Search For The Ultimate Street Car event his past weekend at Auto Club California Speedway in Fontana was a riot. A great mix of cars and people, combined with great Southern California weather, meant that the racing and moods were at an all time high. West Coast regulars met with East Coast and Midwest standouts who made the trip as well, and the home towns weren’t the only variety we saw. With everything from a Dodge Conquest TSI to a late model Porsche to a Mustang Cobra II, if you couldn’t find something you liked in Fontana then you weren’t looking hard enough.

Standout performances included the quickest lap on the Ridetech Autocross by Rob MacGregor in the Hell Boy, No Limit Engineering C10 Chevy Pickup with a 36.6 second lap that nobody could touch. Jake Rozelle was nipping at his heels in the venerable 1969 Camaro, and ultimately took home the overall win in the 3000 lb plus 2 Wheel Drive class. In the 3000 lb and under 2 Wheel Drive class, where Rob’s C10 was competing, John Lazorack just squeezed out the overall win over MacGregor.

Probably one of the most special moments though was the presentation of the K&N Filters Spirit of the Event Award, which at Fontana’s California Speedway went to Wes Drelleshak. Wes has been burning the midnight oil for months in preparation for this race, and with virtually no sleep, incredibly amounts of time away from his understanding family, and a go get’em attitude, he was able to get the invite and will be bringing his 1959 Chevy Apache truck to Vegas in November!
