Lo Car VS Hi Car: Can A $450 Brake Upgrade Hang With A $4,500 Brake Upgrade?

Lo Car VS Hi Car: Can A $450 Brake Upgrade Hang With A $4,500 Brake Upgrade?

There are certain truths that we hold to be self evident here at BangShift. The first is that physics and the laws therein are pretty damned accurate. The second is that hot rodders always want to get the most performance for the least dollars spent. It is the nature of the business and the primal thought that got the whole ball rolling 80 years ago. So knowing that, this video is kind of interesting because the guys at Donut Media are doing something that we’ve often thought about. Building identical cars but with totally not identical parts. One car (lo car) gets all the cheap parts and the other car (hi car) gets all the bucks up stuff.

The crux of this episode is installing and testing a (we assume Chinese) $450 brake upgrade kit that has slotted and drilled rotors as well as new pads vs a full kill Wilwood setup that looks awesome and has every advantage in the world over the other option aside from being vastly more expensive at $4,500.

The cheap car’s upgrade actually did not even change the caliper and kept the stock ones in place whereas the Wilwoods were a six pot design with a much larger than stock rotor and a brake pad differential that pretty much told the story before any of it was installed on a car.

We dig the testing and the video. This is a fun watch, even with an outcome that isn’t exactly a shocker.
