Classic YouTube: Carl Edwards Shoving Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. Across The Line At Iowa

Would you rather be lucky, or good? If you were in Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.’s shoes at the U.S. Cellular 250 at Iowa in August 2011, you probably walked out of the track that night thinking “lucky”. After a rough 2010 season that involved four crashes, he had acquired crew chief Mike Kelly and some magic had started to take place. Shortly after the veteran Kelly joined the team, Stenhouse grabbed a third place and managed to pull Rookie of the Year. His 2011 season looked to be even stronger, managing to finish in the top ten most races and clenching a win in Iowa in May at the John Deere Dealers 250 after battling stiff competition from Edwards and Brad Keselowski. But it was the August race that was the most unique win in his career: during the last lap, Stenhouse was fighting to maintain his lead over Edwards, when his engine blew coming out of turn four. Edwards tried to go around the stricken Mustang, but lost steering when his tires found the oil that fell onto the track and instead drilled Stenhouse in the back hard enough to push him over the finish line in first place. Both drivers seem alright with the conclusion, though Edwards no doubt wanted the win, and Stenhouse would go on to take the Nationwide Series Championship for two years straight (2011-12) and the Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year 2013 before tanking the next couple of years and winding up as Danica Patrick’s arm candy.
