The Coolest Buick On Earth Is For Sale: 1965 Buick Wildcat – Dual Quad 425 Nailhead, Four Speed, Convertible!

Just when you think it is safe to go outside, killer muscle cars that you never knew existed pop out of the woodwork. In this case it just happens to be the coolest Buick on Earth, a 1965 Buick Wildcat with the dual quad Super Wildcat Nailhead engine, a convertible top, and a freaking four speed manual transmission. The seller claims this is one about like 10 made and with this lineup of options and mechanical badassery we believe it. Growing up there was a guy in town wit a butternut colored 1965 Wildcat hardtop and I lusted after it every day. They are some of my favorite cars and I will someday own one with a four speed in it. This thing is otherworldly. Seriously, just flipping amazing. The person who bought this car new should be recognized by Congress or something. They need a statue made of them.

It almost seems like this car would have a really interesting history. A stack load of performance options like this in a convertible screams that the thing was built as some sort of display or attraction car, know what we mean? Maybe a guy who owned a dealership optioned it like this? Maybe a GM executive? Maybe just some bad ass genius who wanted a bad mother of a car in 1965. The engine was rated at 360hp but the Nailhead produced nearly 500 lb-ft of torque so while this thing is not going to run with a hemi car it would have held its own. The porky convertible chassis takes some performance away but hot damn does it look good.

According to the seller this is an all-original (mechanically) car. It as the right motor in it and all the other good stuff. The car, the wheels, those gloriously dignified slab sides. I need a minute….I need all the minutes and $60,000.

Unbelievable!!!! This is a very rare car.

It was often said these Wildcats could pass everything but a gas station.

I worked in a BUICK garage when these were new and gas cost <$.20 gallon.

They were very quick but steering and handling was limited by their skinny tires.

At least the big Buick drum brakes gave you a chance at making an exit ramp when you broke the sound barrier.

  2. Mr. Buick

It has a factory dual quad motor, however it came from a different car and the VIN DOES NOT match this car\’s VIN. Also, the Cowl tag has been removed (either from this car or another car) and has been reattached improperly.

guy wants a lot of blue sky for it. power seats don’t work. lazy bastard, fix ’em. wrong battery cables. wrong master cyl. single fill back then. wonder how much is wrong under the car………….

Mr. Buick is suspicious. Is there a rare Buick registry that can tell if it is as original as it looks? Or is “The Coolest Buick On Earth” a little bit of hype…

“The Coolest Buick On Earth” could describe a lot of cars, customs, modern or vintage. But if a sixties factory hot rod is what you’re looking for, I agree, I have seen nothing else like it.

  5. It\'s 80 degrees in Hawaii. . . . again

I had the same motor in my 66 Riviera. Turned 14.50s with the switch pitch trans. Wish I had it today

The people over at v8buick.com could dissect every detail of it and tell you what’s correct or not. It’s a cool car for sure, and I believe ‘65 was the last year for the 4-speed. I have a ‘66 and would love the interaction a manual transmission gives, but it would likely come with an LS swap at some point.
