When I went searching for the most expensive induction setup I could find on eBay there was no way I thought it would be sitting on top of a small block Chevy engine, but here it is. This astronomically priced set of four Weber 58mm carbs atop a McKay intake manifold is someone’s big payday. How big? Try $45,000 on for size and that does not include the rest of the engine.

These carbs and this style of intake were used on things like the Gran Sport Corvettes from the early 1960s, Formula 5000 cars, and other specialized road racing equipment. The big 58mm Webers were not really intended to be used as a good street driving carb. They are much more of a race piece. These carbs are not easy to find and they are certainly rare in today’s day and age. The intake manifold is perhaps even more interesting because we have no idea who McKay was or what else they produced.

The whole thing is art work in our eyes and boy is it priced like it. It would seem that this little engine is over carb’d but since it is a full effort race engine that was designed to run at sustained high RPM the load of fuel mixers actually makes some sense. The most telling thing about the size of the “throats” that these carbs have is the fact that 8 tennis balls slide comfortably into them! That’s lots of air movement potential when you multiply it by eight.

So there you have it. This weeks’s insanely priced, incredibly rare, and patently awesome speed part. If you need this thing to finish off a race car resto or some sort of museum level quality work, we get it but otherwise, why would you want it? If you have $45,000 to throw around with impunity like this, we envy the hell out of you.
