Amazing Video: This Mechanical Breakdown Of A 1949 Indy 500 Winning Roadster Is Amazing

In 1949, Bill Holland won the Indy 500 driving Lou Moore’s race car. These guys had a good program but they were not exactly on the super hero level as some of the other competitors, making their story of humble background pretty great. Along with the money and the fame, and all that good stuff these guys also got to star in a video that completely dissects the race winning car that they took to a milk bath in the Winner’s Circle. Powered by an Offy and front wheel drive, the car had torsion bar suspension, a chassis designed and built by Moore himself, and plenty of ideas that were not exactly conventional when it came to the mentality of the speedway at that time.

This is not some fluff piece. This is the kind of in-depth video that we have never seen from this period on an Indy 500 roadster. You’ll see them disassemble and rebuild the Offy engine, you’ll see them take the car all the way down to the frame during service, and you’ll be given a great look at what went into not only racing one of these car but what went into slowly evolving them in the off-season.

We love everything about this film and we think you will, too. The tech and the access here is incredible and unlike anything we have ever seen from the late 1940s before.
